Don’t lie to God

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like, a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.  The ungodly are not so:   but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous:  but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1:1-8).

Thought for the week: “Faith”

“When the way seems long and the day is dark, and we can’t hear the song of the thrush or the lark.  And our hearts are heavy with worry and care, and we are lost in the depths of despair…that is the time when faith alone can lead us out of the “dark unknown.”  For faith to believe when the way is rough, and faith to hang on when the going is tough will never fail to pull us through and bring us strength and comfort, too!  For all we really ever need, is “faith the size of a mustard seed.”

Announcements

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with praise service of songs, scripture and prayer.  The scripture was read by Perry Nunn with prayer by Pastor Dukes and Minister Kevin Nunn.

Songs sung were “Come and Go To That Land,”  “Send Me Lord,”  “The Old Ship of Zion”  and “Amazing Grace.”

The morning message was given by Pastor Dukes.  His theme was, “Don’t Lie To God, There’s a Price You Can’t Afford To Pay.”

If you do, how do you lie to God and what happens?  What have you promised God you would do?  Do you have a generous attitude like Barbarus?  He was a giver, he was committed to the Church.  But a certain man and his wife held back and would not give what they had committed to give.  Be careful; you might fall dead as soon as you offer falsely to God.  Never lie to the Spirit of God; don’t put your life or family in jeopardy by lying to God.

Be committed to Jesus because he died for you. It’s not about tradition but because he died.  Trust God and stick to what you say; live for God daily.  Believe Jesus died, was buried, arose and is coming back, and you will be saved.

Is your name written in the book of life?  God blesses those who follow his words. Come and trust him — he is waiting.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Mr. Ronald Tyes in their time of bereavement.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete as of press time.  Agee Brothers Funeral Home directing.

On our sick list this week we ask you to remember in your prayers:  Flora Franklin, Margie Hardnett, Joseph McCall, Jerry Wilson, Joe Frank Allison, Lee Anna Worthey, Dora Archie, Sam and Vivian Hicks and Robert Spence.
