Chilton Christian’s girls basketball team found some answers on Monday.
The boys team might have just found more questions.
The CCA girls defeated visiting Tabernacle (Gardendale) 29-24 to end a mini, two-game losing streak as the playoffs near. The CCA boys, meanwhile, dropped their fourth straight game, 47-44, to a team they had beaten earlier in the season.
Both sets of Patriots have only two games left before the playoffs begin.
The boys game was close until the 3:32 mark in the fourth quarter, when Tabernacle’s Freddie Goodgame, playing with four fouls, stole the basketball in the CCA backcourt and layed it in for a 38-30 lead.
The Patriots (13-6) cut the lead to two points with 17 seconds left, but the teams traded free throws for the next two possessions so the hosts could make no headway.
Tyler Gray led CCA with 13 points. He also had eight rebounds. Zach Brown scored nine points for the Patriots.
Goodgame led all scorers with 18 points, and John White added 16 points for Tabernacle (11-9).
The girls game was also physical and close, with CCA opening up the first significant lead on an inbounds play with 30 seconds remaining.
Jessica Standifer took the pass from in front of the CCA bench while running toward the goal and passed it ahead to Summer Hall, who layed it in for a 27-23 lead.
Standifer led the Patriots (11-5) with nine points, and Destiny Richards scored seven.
Katie Parr scored 11 points for Tabernacle (3-15).
