Dorothy Mae Nelson, age 83, of Clanton, passed away on Feb. 22, 2011, at Hatley Healthcare in Clanton.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1927, in Clanton, the daughter of the late Walter William Popwell and the late Roberta Cleckler Popwell.

She was a cutter with civil service.

She is survived by: son, Neal (Lynn) Nelson of Georgiana; daughter, Pam (Jimmy) Sewell of Clanton; grandchildren: Patrick Nelson, Corey Nelson, Kyle Nelson, Anna Nelson, Shelly Sewell and Jay Sewell; four great grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Connell of Clanton; and brother, John Kelley of Clanton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Barney O. Nelson.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Ellison-Mims Funeral Home in Clanton.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. from the Memorial Chapel of Ellison-Mims Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Perkins officiating.

Burial will follow in Chestnut Creek Cemetery in Verbena.
