The grand jury reported to Judge Sibley Reynolds they heard 313 cases and returned 225 true bills in circuit court here last Friday.
The jury praised local law enforcement officials for being professional and well prepared, as well as their “devotion to duty, their hard work and courage in risking their lives to protect us all.
In the report, foreperson Mary Jarvis told the judge the jury toured the Chilton County Jail and found its staff to be “professional and diligent.”
“We also had the opportunity to observe the Chilton County Courthouse and found the facility to be in disrepair. We note that the judicial space is inadequate for all the court’s business.
“We recommend that Chilton County’s Commission add much needed court, office, parking and storage space.”
The jury also requested that the commission consider the construction of a new Judicial Complex.
The jury also reviewed the commission audit reports and found no indictable offenses.
