LETTER: Local residents return wallet

Published 4:19 pm Friday, January 14, 2011

Dear Editor,

Passing through Clanton on New Year’s Day, I dropped my wallet in the parking lot of McDonald’s.

I didn’t discover the loss until I tried to buy gas north of Birmingham. Shortly thereafter, I got a phone call from Mrs. Bobbie Tipton of Clanton. She asked if I was missing something. I replied that I had lost my wallet.

She verified my mailing address and said that she would send it first thing Monday. I received it on Wednesday from the post office, sent First Class and insured. Besides a large amount of money, the wallet contained many credit cards and several licenses and certificates that would be very difficult to replace.

I am writing this letter to publicly thank Bill and Bobbie Tipton for their honesty and for going out of their way to help a person they have never met. May their acts be an example for all to follow.
