Serving his third consecutive term as chairman of the Chilton County Commission, Tim Mims is staying focused and trying to keep everything running smoothly and in order.
Mims is the only person that ran for the commission as an independent candidate in the 2008 election.
He is also the first person to hold the chairman seat on the commission three times and consecutively, he said.
“Not to toot my own horn, but I have a very good track record, and I appreciate the support I have received from the citizens of Chilton County, and I thank them for re-electing me. I’m grateful for it, and if there is any way I can help feel free to call.”
Mims’ main plan for the commission, as they prepare for the New Year, is for the governing body to continue what they have been doing — watching their budgets and trying not to borrow money.
“My first and second term as chairman, we went both years without borrowing money and hopefully we can do the same this year,” said Mims. “Prior to that, it seems that every time money had to be borrowed to finish out the year.”
As of now, there are no new changes planned for the budget or budgets cuts.
“A lot of our budget has to do with administrator Vanessa Hendrick because part of her job is to watch the spending to make sure we don’t spend a lot of money, and she does a very good job and should be given credit.”
“I enjoy working with the six other commissioners,” said Mims. “We have a good County Commission and seven good honest commissioners and the county should be proud of them. Everyone in the office does a great job — we have a good staff.”
Along with his job as commissioner, Mims has recently opened Mims Ellison Funeral Home on Lay Dam Road.
“It will be easy for the people of Clanton to get a hold of me because I just opened a funeral home here,” said Mims. “Chilton County is a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
There is no better place in the world to live other than Chilton County, he said.
“We have the best peaches in the world, and I’m proud of it because that’s a big industry for Chilton County,” said Mims.
