Spring Fling benefits rewards program

Monday’s thunderstorms subsided long enough for Verbena students to enjoy outdoor amusements during their Spring Fling event.
The carnival-style event, complete with inflatables and concessions, gave the entire school a chance to have fun before classes dismiss, as well as raise funds for future maintenance projects and field trips through the Verbena Rewards Program.
The program is designed to reward students in grades 6-12 for making positive choices and excelling academically.
Verbena Principal Robin Cagle said students that earn a certain number of points in the program can go on trips to places like the Alabama Adventure park.
“The students seem to like the system,” Cagle said. “(It) encourages them to try to do better.”
Spring Fling proceeds could also help pay for the school to receive a much-needed, fresh coat of paint, Cagle said.
“We need to buy paint for the school this summer,” she said. “It’s a beautiful school, but it’s an antique.”
