The Rebels took care of business Friday as a combination of pitching and batting allowed THS to beat Reeltown twice in Round 2 of the state Class 2A baseball playoffs.

The Rebels won the first game 8-3 as senior pitcher Jason Price threw a complete game in his last start of his career at home. He threw seven innings, striking out four batters in the process.

Price’s left-handed classmate Stephen Mims was just as effective in the second game, which Thorsby won 12-1.

Mims threw four innings and only allowed one hit and four walks. He also fanned eight batters, only allowing one run that came in the second inning.

The Rebels responded well to being down a run in the second game as they scored eight runs in the top of the third.

Junior Denham Childress started the inning off with a double. Sophomore Jagger Cook drove Childress in with a single. This started the scoring as the Rebels batted around in the inning.

The Rebels led 8-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning. THS added four more runs in the next three innings that allowed the Rebels to win by way of the 10-run rule at the end of the sixth inning.

Matt Morgan and Childress, who each went 2-for-3 with two RBI, led Thorsby’s offense in the second game. Childress also scored two of the Rebels’ runs.

The Rebels’ have won their first four playoff games this year by a combined score of 41-13, but coach Ab Argent said, “There is always room for improvement…We are going to come back on Monday and get ready for the quarterfinals.”

The quarterfinals are a place the Rebels are used to as they have reached the final eight each of the past three years.

Argent also said the Rebels are just starting to hit their stride. He said the team’s experience and challenging regular season schedule will help them as they prepare to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Thorsby (22-9) will have to travel for next week’s playoff matchup. They will play the winner of the Millry/Leroy series that was also played on Friday.
