The Leadership Chilton group participated in an education session for its most recent class on Jan. 14 and got to experience multiple different educational facilities that are offered in Chilton County.
The first stop for the group was at Jefferson State Community College Chilton-Clanton Campus to hear from Associate Dean Ashley Kitchens talk about the college’s impact on local education. Kitchens spotlighted the number of classes offered at the college, and the number of high school students in the county who are taking advantage of dual enrollment opportunities and taking those classes to get ahead for college. History professor at the college David McRae shared the study aboard opportunities and Training Coordinator Robert Tellis shared opportunities for workforce education for students. The time at Jeff State was complete with the group testing their skills on the heavy equipment simulator the college has for student training.
The next stop was a meeting with Chilton County Schools Superintendent Corey Clements as he provided an overview of the school system and highlighted the strengths of the schools. Clements showcased strides the school system has made, which earned them a huge improvement on the most recent state report card.
Finally, the group toured both LeCroy Career Technical Center and Isabella High School to see how those improvements are being put into action. The group witnessed trade students honing their skills in their classes, teachers investing in students’ reading skills and improving the lives of the future generation.
