Thorsby sweeps CCHS in semis on night four to set up championship games against Jemison

Thorsby High School was able to take down Chilton County High School in both semifinals on Jan. 9 on the Tigers’ home court to clinch its spot in the championship games on Jan. 11. The Rebels cruised to both victories in enemy territory to set up two dates with Jemison High School in the tournament finals.

 

Varsity Boys Semifinal Round — Thorsby High School vs. Chilton County High School

The Rebels’ varsity boys squad jumped out early on CCHS and never looked back to claim a 61-47 win in the semifinals. Thorsby started the game on an 11-3 run, capped by a Christian Davenport 3-pointer to force a Tigers’ timeout. Thorsby extended the run to 19-3 before the next CCHS basket, and Aiden Seeley caught fire from deep later in the quarter. The senior hit three 3-pointers in the quarter, and Max Burnett knocked down a 3-pointer as time expired in the opening quarter, leaving Thorsby with a 29-11 lead.

Seeley led Thorsby in scoring with 24 points, followed by Burnett with 15 points and knocking down three 3-pointers in the game. Seeley hit five 3-pointers.

A slower moving second quarter saw the Rebels manage the gap to a 36-21 lead at the halftime break. The Tigers made a push coming out of halftime, but it was quickly nullified by Thorsby, leading to the win. Marshall Thornhill led CCHS in scoring with 15 points, followed by Cayden Meank with 13 points and Damarien Floyd with eight points.

Thorsby will face Jemison in the varsity boy’s county tournament final on Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. at Chilton County High School.

 

Varsity Girls Semifinal Round — Thorsby High School vs. Chilton County High School

Thorsby’s varsity girls also put together a convincing win over the host school, taking it 72-60 over the Tigers. The Rebels controlled the game, but CCHS cut the lead down to 10 late in the fourth quarter. However, Brooklyn Reeser knocked down a 3-pointer to stop the run and send the Rebels to the title game.

Thorsby’s Reeser led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Allie Reeser with 19 points and Ava Robinson with 18 points. CCHS was led by Ivyonna Varner and I’Shunti Brown with 19 points each. Lily Benson added 11 points and three 3-pointers.

Thorsby will face Jemison in the championship game at 3 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Chilton County High School.
