Jemison claims three championship game spots on night three of county basketball tourneys

Maplesville and Jemison High Schools faced off in all three games of the 2025 Chilton County Basketball Tournaments on night three on Jan. 8, and the Panthers swept the games to clinch three championship game spots. The two teams put together three highly contested games on night three, and the Panthers captured the well-earned title game spots.

 

Varsity Boys Semifinal Round — Jemison High School vs. Maplesville High School

In a back-and-forth semifinal between Jemison and Maplesville in the varsity boys tournament, it came down to the Panthers with the ball trailing by one point with a handful of seconds left. As the clock winded down, CJ Kidd put in the go-ahead bucket to secure Jemison’s spot in the championship game with a 51-50 win. Kidd led Jemison in scoring with 13 points, followed by Luke Gann with 10 points and Dalten Moore with eight points.

Both teams held leads in the first half with Jemison jumping out to a 10-7 lead after the first quarter, but Maplesville reversed the script and jumped ahead 17-15 at halftime. The teams opened up the scoring more in the second half, but it remained close throughout the game with neither team gaining larger than a five-point advantage. In the end, it was the Panthers winning the best game of the 2025 county basketball tournaments so far.

Nehemiah McCary led Maplesville with a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Jakobe Nix followed behind with nine points, and Chris Simon and Aidan Abbott each posted seven points.

 

Varsity Girls Semifinal Round — Jemison High School vs. Maplesville High School

The Panthers extended their winning streak to five games as the Jemison varsity girls team took down Maplesville 41-31. The Panthers were able to control Maplesville guard Kamylia Talley to just 16 points and six assists after her great first-round game, and managed the gap to earn the win and the championship game spot. Jaden McGee finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Red Devils.

 

Junior Varsity Boys Semifinal Round — Jemison High School vs. Maplesville High School

Jemison’s junior varsity boys team muscled past Maplesville 54-22 to set up a championship game on Jan. 9 against Chilton County High School. Calvin Jackson was the leading scorer for the Red Devils, followed by Kolby Talley with five points.
