Night one of county tournaments goes to Maplesville after three wins

All three 2025 Chilton County Basketball Tournaments tipped off on Jan. 6 with Maplesville High School in action in all three contests, sweeping them all to claim semifinal spots. The Red Devils’ varsity boys, varsity girls and junior varsity boys all claimed wins to set up matchups with Jemison High School on Jan. 9 at Chilton County High School.

Varsity Boys 1st Round — Maplesville High School vs. Verbena High School

Maplesville’s varsity boys team continued its fast start to the season with a first-round win over Verbena in the 2025 Chilton County Basketball Tournament. Maplesville led from the opening tip to the final buzzer after jumping out to a 20-4 start after the opening quarter, and managed the gap the rest of the way.

Verbena did win the second half of the game 25-20, but could not claw back into it further. They were led by Kamari Ceasar and Caleb Short who both shot over 50% from the field. Short led the team with 16 points on a 5-for-8 effort adding seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ceasar shot 4-for-5 in the game and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Maplesville was led by Nehemiah McCary who posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was joined in double digits by Aidan Abbott with 13 points and six rebounds, and Devon Nix with 11 points and five assists.

Maplesville advances to the semifinals where they will face Jemison High School on Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. for a spot in the championship game on the line.

 

Varsity Girls 1st Round — Maplesville High School vs. Verbena High School

Kamylia Talley took over the first-round matchup between Maplesville and Verbena in the varsity girl’s county tournament with 25 points to lead the Red Devils to a 37-27 win, and a spot in the semifinals. Talley’s big night comes after a quick start to the 2024-2025 season for her. Kenzie Vowell added five points for Maplesville, followed by Sarah Williams with four points. The Maplesville and Jemison matchup for the varsity girls will be on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m.

 

Junior Varsity Boys 1st Round — Maplesville High School vs. Isabella High School

Maplesville narrowly edged out Isabella High School 34-30 in the only first-round matchup of the junior varsity boy’s county tournament. The Red Devils were led by a pair of double-digit scorers in Calvin Jackson and Ty Bailey with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Isabella was led by Brennon Kirkland with nine points, followed by Alex Henderson with eight points and Levi Wilkins with five points.

Maplesville advances to play Jemison in the semifinals on Jan. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
