Chilton County area high schools were represented amongst the best players in the state on the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s 2024 All-State teams with players landing on the Class 1A and Class 2A squads. Billingsley, Isabella and Maplesville High Schools had its players named All-State performers across the first, second and honorable mention teams.

Outside of Class 1A, there was only one player from the Chilton County area to make an all-state team in Class 2A-7A — Isabella’s Kaden Tuttle. A year after being named to the Class 2A Second-Team All-State Defensive Team as a defensive back, the junior backed that up in 2024 with another selection on the same team and at the same position showing a model of consistency.

Class 1A is where the Chilton County area shined the brightest with five selections in the classification across the teams on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Billingsley and Maplesville both landed a player on the first-teams, one each on the side of the ball the programs like to hang their hats on.

Bears’ junior Kyle Boice had a stellar year as Billingsley’s leading target, landing him on the Class 1A First-Team All-State Offensive Team as a wide receiver. Boice posted over 1,100 yards, 10 touchdowns and 60 catches this season, his most prolific for the program’s high-powered offense. Boice was a snub on the team last year in some eyes, but gets the extra boost all the way to the first-team in 2024.

Boice’s counterpart on the Class 1A First-Team All-State Defensive Team saw Maplesville’s powerful Von Woods land a spot as a defensive lineman. Woods was a standout on a strong Red Devils’ defense that powered them all the way to the Class 1A State Championship Game. Woods’ 70 tackles and eight sacks were both among the leaders on a defense that had multiple players make impacts weekly.

Maplesville had two more players notch all-state selections with Aidan Abbott claiming his second consecutive selection to the Class 1A Second-Team All-State Offensive Team. Last year, Abbott was tabbed as a wide receiver for the team, but this year he will represent the Red Devils’ program as an athlete. Maplesville quarterback Pearce Yeargan earned an honorable mention on the Class 1A All-State Team as an athlete following his great junior season that engineered a state championship game appearance.

Billingsley’s power running back Kaden Cotton put together a great campaign in 2024 with 1,739 yards on 131 carries and 18 touchdowns. Cotton’s growth in the backfield helped create a better balance in the Bears’ offense, and the junior caught 23 passes for 348 yards and three touchdowns as well.

All of the players will be returning to their respective programs next season with five of the six in their senior seasons to close their high school careers.
