Jemison Intermediate School’s annual Transportation Career Day was held just before Thanksgiving to introduce students to careers involving vehicles and transportation. The students got the opportunity to interact with local professionals and climb aboard the vehicles they use on a daily basis during their job.

“The event is designed to inspire young minds and broaden their understanding of potential career paths,” Chilton County Schools career coach Wendy Fortner said. “The event welcomed professionals from local businesses and organizations who shared their experiences and insights.”

Professionals that came out to JIS included representatives from 811, ALPCO, Jefferson State Community College’s CDL program, Jemison Fire Department, Jemison Rescue, Jemison Police Department, Mims Wrecker Service and Wesley Gore Fishing. Each business and professional brought a unique perspective and gave students a glimpse into the diverse opportunities within the transportation sector.

“From tow trucks to fire engines, anglers to police cruisers, the visiting professionals shared the tools of their trade while explaining the critical role their jobs play in the community,” Fortner said. “Students had the chance to see the vehicles up close, ask questions and learn about the day-to-day responsibilities associated with each career.”
