Jemison High School recently hosted a mock interview event for its senior students to refine their professional skills before their upcoming graduation.
Put together by Chilton County Schools career coach Wendy Fortner and counselors Brittany Oglesby and Kelsey Bean, the three went to JHS and helped the senior students get together professional resumes to prepare for the interviews.
Students met with local business owners, community members, Chilton County Board of Education employees and state employees during the event and each student had two interviews with the professionals that allowed them to experience real-life scenarios and answer interview questions they will likely encounter in future job interviews.
Students arrived in business attire to establish a good first impression. The event focused on teaching proper interview etiquette, appropriate professional attire and effective resume writing. All of which are critical tools for students preparing to enter the workforce or continue their education.
“Events like these are a testament to the commitment of Jemison High School and the surrounding community to the success of its students,” Fortner said. “As the students look ahead to their next steps, the lessons they learned during this event will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation for future success.”
The interviewers raved about the seniors for their professionalism, poise and willingness to learn during the event, and they offered them constructive feedback to help them improve on future interviews.
