After months of verbal commitment, Billingsley High School’s Sadie Primm made it official and signed her letter of intent to play softball at Marion Military Institute on Nov. 14. The jump to the college level for the senior utility player came after verbally committing to MMI months ago, and the signing made it final.
“It feels amazing, and I feel very confident that I have a plan in front of me,” Primm said. “I am very happy about it, and it is so exciting.”
Primm’s family, past and present coaches, teammates and friends packed the BHS gymnasium to witness her sign. MMI coaches Jeff and Lori Benson were in attendance as well to welcome their newest Lady Tiger into the fold. The senior said that the support for her that showed up gave her a sense of love, and knowing that she has so many people willing to celebrate her makes her feel cared for. Billingsley High School has a family atmosphere about it, and it was on display for Primm’s signing.
Primm played in a lot of showcase tournaments with her travel softball team and got the opportunity to play in front of and interact with numerous college coaches. However, no one impacted her more than MMI head coach Jeff Benson, and Primm knew early on in her recruiting process that she wanted him to be her college coach. Add in the homey vibes that the MMI campus provides and only being a short drive from her family, MMI was just the spot for Primm.
“I knew I wanted Jeff Benson to be my college coach, and I was determined to get him as my coach,” Primm said. “Another thing is the campus is so cozy and it is a little block of Marion. It is 40 minutes away from home and right there.”
Primm has been a catcher for most of her time in the Billingsley program, but recently she has played more of a utility role on her travel team. In discussions with the coaches at MMI, the tentative plan for Primm is to have her as a utility player to get her action in as many positions as possible, which could lead to her getting ample playing time with the experience at multiple positions across the field.
The transition from Billingsley to MMI will be a challenge for Primm, but not one she has not already begun to think about. To combat that, she plans on continuing to devote a lot of her time to her mental aspect towards the game and keeping that in check and position, which to her is over half of the battle.
“That is 60% of the game, and the rest is physical,” Primm said. “Keeping that right, staying humble, staying right with the Lord and being confident in myself. I plan to work on the side with batting, catching and fielding to try to stay fit both physically and mentally.”
Primm gave a special thank you to everyone that came out to her signing, her parents Tiffany and David Primm, coach Lanny Jones and her friends that were in attendance.
