If you are in need of a sweet treat this holiday season, GeMa’s Cupcakes Plus has recently moved to a new and improved location, just in time for the season.

With the long-awaited reopening occurring on Aug. 31, the bakery can now be found at 1667 Seventh St. S. at the Peach Plaza in Clanton. They were inclined to move to a bigger space to allow for more room in the kitchen, but the transition to a new building can be difficult to acclimate to.

“It has been improving (our business), but it’s still an adjustment because of the newness of it,” GeMa’s owner Lillian Rogers said.

Since the bakery has cultivated a loyal customer base over the years, they surely have the support of their community during this adaptation period.

On the first of November, GeMa’s posted to Facebook their specialty menu for Thanksgiving. Preparing the food for the so-called perfect holiday spread can sometimes dim the light of one’s celebratory joy. The last thing you want to worry about is forgetting an essential Southern delicacy that will have your family members shooting deploring glares at you from across the dinner table. Rogers did mentioned that their best seller is the pecan pie, which will surely see an increase in orders within the upcoming weeks. Perhaps even, one is asked to bring a dish to a potluck dinner and may not be culinarily skilled like the rest of your loved ones. You are in luck because you can opt for one of GeMa’s savory sides instead, which can feed anywhere from 12-15 people.

Rogers exchanged uplifting words about her aspirations for the business’s future. She hopes the bakery will “always be growing and for everyone to know how to do homemade stuff to satisfy other people,” she said.

She has undoubtedly done her fair share of that sentiment with the citizens of Clanton.

The bakery has become a delightful part of the community over the years and will continue to do so moving forward. With a scrumptious menu, homey atmosphere and pleasant staff members, GeMa’s is a lovely place to turn to for anyone with a sweet tooth out there. So, remember — dessert is on them.
