Unbeaten T.R. Miller High School kept its record unblemished after a 49-7 win over Thorsby High School in the first round of the AHSAA Class 3A State Football Playoffs on Nov. 8.
The Rebels were put in a hole early after the first quarter at 28-0, and T.R. Miller continued to pour it on building the lead to 49-0 by the halftime break. However, in the second half, the Rebels were able to put together some things to hang their hats on. Senior quarterback Grayson McManus powered into the end zone from three yards out to get Thorsby on the board in his final game for the program, and Manuel Castillo added the extra point.
McManus ran for 31 yards on 11 carries and the touchdown, and he threw for 99 yards on 6-for-12 passing and was picked off twice by the T.R. Miller defense. Christian Davenport and Lucas Jackson each caught two passes with Jackson leading the receiving corps with 36 yards.
The Thorsby defense pitched a shutout in the second half to end its season with a positive half of football. Malachi Allgood led the defense with seven tackles with one for a loss, followed by McManus with six tackles and Tyler Lockhart with five. McManus also had an interception.
Thorsby ends its 2024 season at 4-7.
