Chilton County saw six of its seven area high school volleyball teams advance to the super regionals after winning or finishing runner-up in their respective area tournaments on Oct. 16-17.

Two of the schools, Chilton County and Billingsley High Schools, won their area tournaments with strong showings on their home courts. The Bears made quick work of Breakthrough Charter School 3-0 in the semifinals of the Class 1A Area 7 Tournament to set up a matchup with Maplesville High School in the finals after the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Francis Marion High School in their semifinal. In the final, Billingsley took it in straight sets to clinch the area championship.

In the other local Class 1A action, Verbena High School advanced to the Area 6 tournament final with a close 3-2 win over Autaugaville High School in the semifinals that got the Red Devils into the super regionals.

CCHS clinched its spot in the super regionals already by topping the Class 6A Area 5 standings in the regular season, but the Tigers put an exclamation point on it with a 3-0 sweep of Calera High School in the area tournament final.

Isabella and Thorsby High Schools swept their semifinals matchups in the Class 2A Area 6 and Class 3A Area 5 Tournaments, respectively, but fell in the area finals. Both teams still advance to the South Super Regional Tournaments.

Jemison High School lost a close match to Montevallo High School in the Class 5A Area 5 Tournament semifinals 3-2. After losing the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23, the Panthers rallied to take the next two sets 25-17 and 25-12 to set up the fifth and deciding set before Montevallo clinched the spot in the super regionals with a 15-6 set win.

All six Chilton County area programs who advanced to the super regionals will be in the South Super Regional Tournaments at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on Oct. 23-25.

Montevallo High School defeats Jemison High School 3-2 (26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 12-25, 15-6) in Semifinals

 

Class 6A Area 5 Tournament at Chilton County High School

Chilton County High School defeats Calera High School 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-19) in Final
