Chilton County High School took its homecoming win comfortably over Brookwood High School to the tune of 39-7. The Tigers broke the game open in the second quarter and cruised the rest of the way to their second win of the season.
“It was a good, overall win,” CCHS head coach Eddie Wall said. “They played really well, and I told them after the game it was the first time all year that we have played as close to a perfect game as the coaching staff could expect.”
Kelijah Lucas shined for CCHS, carrying the ball 19 times for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Draden Brown took in a lengthy touchdown run, and Payton Shepherd secured the defensive side of the ball with a pick six during the big second quarter. Wall said he was impressed with the Tigers being able to control their running attack throughout the game while also adding in some passes here and there to keep the Brookwood defense back on its heels.
“We have been telling them that if we can get out of our own way, that we are a pretty good football team that can move the ball when we need to,” Wall said. “The teams we have coming up have already played the region teams that we have played, and they played them pretty tight. The only real difference in most of our region games has been those stretches of time where we just played badly and made mistakes, so we still have all of those goals ahead of us.”
Chilton County (2-4) travels to Chelsea High School for its next game on Oct. 4, back in Class 6A Region 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
