Jemison High School fell at home to Selma High School 14-10 on Sept. 6 in another close contest for the Panthers. The Panthers found themselves with a chance to pull out their first win of the 2024 season for the second consecutive week late in the game, but were denied again. The Panthers built a 10-0 lead over unbeaten Selma in the first half behind a rushing touchdown from A.J. Ford and a field goal by Chris Borraz. Ford was Jemison’s leading rusher with 64 yards on 21 carries and caught two passes for 36 yards from quarterback Houston Harris.

Selma scored the game’s final 14 points to sneak out the road win and keep the Panthers out of the win column so far this season.

“I have seen them improve the last few weeks, and I am still trying to put the right pieces together,” Jemison head coach Rishard Davis said “We are trying to get a core group of guys, because we have guys that can help us in many ways, but there is a certain type of ball I like to play and we are just trying to move those pieces around. We have seen glimpses at times, we just have not been able to put it together.”

Davis believes that once the Panthers see a win, they will be even more motivated to keep working and getting better. He has had fans reach out in support of him and the team during their first three weeks, showing that the community is motivated as well to work together to get this Jemison team over the hump sooner than later.

Jemison (0-3) will stay in Class 5A Region 3 play for its next game on Sept. 13 facing Shelby County High School at home at 7 p.m.
