While the beginning of a new school year is very exciting for all children in Chilton County, the teachers and administration at each school are equally as excited as they are. A new year means a new opportunity for growth in their schools, a chance to see new faces and maybe the last opportunity to have their school impact their students as they move on to life after graduation.

Administrators from various schools in Chilton County shared their comments about the new school year on the first day of school on August 7.

 

Brooke Sullivan, Verbena High School Assistant Principal

“We are so excited, and today has gone so smoothly. We have so many returning that know what to do, everything is going very well. Having our own separate building is so special, and we have such a great connection to our community. We get to go to the high school for activities, but we also have our own space. Verbena is like a family, and we really work together in the best interest of the students and look forward to doing that again this year.”

 

Gina Abbott, Maplesville High School Principal

“The faculty and staff at MHS are excited to welcome not only our returning students, but also lots of new ones! If you are on Facebook or were in town this week, you would have seen how excited our community was as well! We look forward to their creative ways of encouraging and cheering us on to a great start each year.

At MHS, we are dedicated to making all aspects of our campus a welcoming place for everyone. Whether you are walking into our front lobby, a classroom, or a special event on campus, we want you to know we are glad you are here! I hope all of our students and their families feel this way when they are on campus or interacting with our faculty and staff. I am personally excited, as this is my first full year as principal of MHS, to begin creating and implementing my vision for our school. My favorite part of any new school year is seeing the hope and anticipation on the faces of our students as they anticipate this to be the best year yet! We hope all Chilton County Schools have a wonderful and safe school year!”

 

Tracy Johns, Jemison Elementary School Assistant Principal

“We are just excited to see all of the kid’s faces and see them back in the building and watch them grow. We see such huge improvement and growth from the beginning to the end of the year, so it is just exciting to see all of them back. We have great enrollment this year, so we are very excited.”

 

Ricky Porter, Isabella High School Principal

“We are very excited here at Isabella to get another school year started. I want to personally thank all of our faculty and staff, parents and most especially our students for getting this school year off to a smooth start. We are looking very forward to continuing to make great things happen at Isabella High School and “Growing Tomorrow’s Leaders TODAY!” It’s A Great Day To Be A MUSTANG!”

 

Kendall Jackson, Jemison High School

“We have had a great start to the school year at JHS. Our staff has worked very hard to get things ready for our students’ return to school. Everyone, including our students, has hit the ground running and picked up where we left off last year. Our staff has been working to establish and put together plans for academic goals for our school that will help our students be better prepared for life after high school. We want everyone to have true academic growth and achievement. We have already held our first community event for the year which was Panther Day this past Saturday. This was a time that we were able to highlight and recognize Panthers of all ages who are involved in Jemison Youth athletics, Jemison Middle School athletics, Jemison High School athletics, and our Blue Regiment Band. That is one of the great things about being at JHS. I look forward to working with everyone in our community each year to serve and help our students. We are able to accomplish so much more and great things can happen when we are all working together for the betterment of our students, school, and community.”
