The AHSAA continued their biyearly realignment of high school sports by approving their spring sports in May, and some changes were made to the schedules of Chilton County high school programs.

The biggest change made in the new realignment was the reflection of Thorsby High School’s move from Class 2A to Class 3A. The Rebels are moving to Class 3A for the first time since 2012-2013, and its softball, baseball and track and field teams will have new opponents for its area games. In track, Thorsby will compete in Section 2 of Class 3A along with 16 other schools. The Rebels baseball team moves to Area 7 in Class 3A and will have Greensboro, Hale County and Sumter Central High Schools in its area. Thorsby’s softball team will compete in Class 3A Area 8 with only two other schools — B.B. Comer and Childersburg High Schools, following their state championship run in their last year in Class 2A in 2024.

Chilton County High School stays in Class 6A, but some sports switch around their area opponents. The Tigers’ softball team stays in Class 6A Area 5, and share it with old area foe Calera High School and newcomer Benjamin Russell High School. The CCHS baseball also landed in Class 6A Area 5 with the same opponents. CCHS stays in Section 3 in track and field, Section 3 in tennis, Section 2 in golf, and Area 5 in soccer.

Jemison High School remains in Class 5A and in Area 7 for baseball joining Demopolis, Montevallo and Selma High Schools, and its softball team is in the same area with the same opponents as well. The Panthers tennis team will compete in Section 3, and their golf teams in Section 2.

Isabella High School is now the only Class 2A school in Chilton County following the departure of Thorsby from the class, and the Mustangs landed in Area 7 with Aliceville High School, Greene County High School and Tuscaloosa Academy for baseball. Isabella’s softball team is in Area 7 as well, but will face Central of Coosa County and Horseshoe Bend High Schools in area play. Isabella’s golf teams will compete in Section 2.

Class 1A retains the largest pool of Chilton County area teams with three, starting with Maplesville and Billingsley High Schools in Area 6 for baseball. They will share the area with Breakthrough Charter School, Ellwood Christian Academy and Francis Marion High School. Verbena High School fell into Area 7 for baseball, sharing it with Autauga Academy and Autaugaville and Notasulga High Schools.

Softball sees a similar alignment as all three Chilton area schools fall into Area 7 with Breakthrough Charter, keeping the same close tabs on each other as they did in the 2022-2024 alignment seasons.

Billingsley’s and Maplesville’s track and field teams will both compete in Section 2, and the Red Devils’ golf team will be in Section 2 as well.

These new alignments will be enforced for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years and sports seasons. The AHSAA realigns classes, areas, regions and sections every two years.
