Thorsby FFA sends meat evaluation team to National FFA Convention & Expo

After advancing three teams to the Alabama FFA State Competition at Auburn University on June 4, Thorsby High School had all three teams place in the top five of their respective competitions. Thorsby’s meat evaluation team advanced to the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana this October.

The Rebels’ meat evaluation team of Elizabeth Cochran, PresleyRaye Knighton, Brett McCluskey, Shelby Price and Easton Robinson took first place at the state competition and advanced to the national competition. McCluskey was the top individual scorer in the contest. The poultry evaluation team consisting of Madison Hammock, Brock Johnson, Lilly Smith and Mary Leigh Williams finished second in the contest at states, and Smith took home the top individual scorer in the contest.

The veterinary science team had a strong showing of fourth place in their contest at states, led by team members Hannah Blevins, Ella Brasfield, Chelsea Crumpton, Abdul Elkhatib and Ava Robinson.

The 97th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana is from Oct. 21-26.
