Girl Scout Troop 337’s Juniors and Cadettes have earned their Bronze and Silver Awards after completing a pet pantry project at Goose Pond Park. The pet pantry was placed at the bridge crossing to enter the park near the parking lot.

“For their Bronze and Silver Awards, they decided to name it Pet Pantry,” Amy Jolley, leader of Girl Scout Troop 337, said. “The Pet Pantry is like a blessing box, but it is for dogs and cats.”

The Juniors, fourth and fifth graders, and the Cadettes, sixth to eighth graders, planned the project to earn their award for several months. The Girl Scouts planned the design for the newspaper box that was donated to them by The Clanton Advertiser. The design featured cat and dog stickers made by Deep South Creations, and each Girl Scout donated cat and dog food, treats, water and toys.

The items are available for anyone that needs the items for their pets. The box will be checked frequently by the Girl Scout families and be refilled as needed. Canned food is allowed to be dropped off in the box for those interested in replenishing the box.

“(The Girl Scouts) are so thankful to Clanton Mayor Mims and Sally Wall with the City of Clanton for allowing them to place the Pet Pantry box at Goose Pond Park,” Jolley said. “Thanks to the Grimes family for delivering the box to the park. The girls worked so hard, and we are so proud of them. We have a wonderful community, and we hope the Pet Pantry will be used by our community.”
