Thorsby High School was named a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) by the American School Counselor Association for 2024 in March as one of 138 schools across 25 states. RAMP is in its 20th year, and it recognizes schools “committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-informed school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment,” a press release from the American School Counselor Association read.

In its 20 years, RAMP has recognized more than 1,600 schools across the United States in 47 different states. Schools have the RAMP designation for five years, and Thorsby must resubmit an application by Oct. 15, 2028 to maintain the designation.

Thorsby will be honored along with the other 137 schools during a special ceremony at the American School Counselor Association’s Annual Conference in Kansas City, Missouri in July.

“This year’s RAMP honorees have shown their commitment to students and the school counseling profession,” Jill Cook, American School Counselor Association Executive Director, said. “These schools used data to drive their program development and implementation so all students can achieve success. RAMP designation distinguishes these schools and encourages school counselors nationwide to strive for excellence.”

ASCA assists schools by expanding the influence of school counselors on students in their schools. It helps school counselors guide those students towards academic achievement, future career planning and preparing them for post-schooling life.
