Over 50 students at Verbena Elementary School participated in the Week of the Young Child events that are coming up in April by creating handprints that will be passed out at the Alabama State Capitol. Verbena participated with The Alabama Partnership for Children, a non-profit that devotes its time to improving outcomes of children from birth to age five in Alabama, and created unique handprints that will be given to representatives from the Chilton County districts during the week in April.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to send in these handprints as a vivid reminder of the vital job ahead of them, and how their choices affect these little hands,” said Brittany Bice, teacher at Verbena Elementary School.

The handprints are a part of the Week of the Young Child from April 6-12, and they will be handed out at the Strolling Thunder event at the Alabama State Capitol on April 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event helps participants connect with their state and local elected officials to bring awareness to babies from birth to age three. The event will begin with a press conference with Gov. Kay Ivey on the front steps of the Capitol Building, and then stroll to the South Lawn where activities for children and information for adults will be available.
