Nick Burnett won the seat for the Chilton County Circuit Clerk position during the 2024 Primary Election on March 5. Burnett earned 70.69% (5,288 votes) of the 7,481 total votes casted in the county defeating opponent Teresa Connell (29.31%, 2,193 votes). Burnett had no opposition from the democratic party for the seat.
“It was a hard-fought campaign, and a clean race by both me and my opponent,” Burnett said following the election on March 5. “It just shows that where God wants you he will put you. I am excited to be able to help the people, and looking forward to helping the citizens of Chilton County and to be able to serve them. I have always had a willingness to serve, and God has put me here, so I look forward to doing that.”
Burnett will take office on Jan. 25, 2025 replacing long time Chilton County Circuit Clerk Glenn McGriff who is retiring. Burnett said he is excited about filling the role, but knows no one will be able to fully fill the shoes left by McGriff’s departure.
“I will not be able to step into that position and fill (McGriff’s) shoes because he has done a great job for a long time, and I am glad me and him have a great relationship,” Burnett said. “He will show me everything I need to know, and I can imagine I will be calling him a lot to ask questions later on down the road.”
Burnett is currently a narcotics detective for the Calera Police Department, and he will begin wrapping up things there and starting his transition to the circuit clerk position in the coming months before Jan. 25.
