Amelia Fjeldstad of Isabella High School is The Clanton Advertiser’s Chilton County volleyball player of the year for the 2023 season.
The senior put together a stellar season that saw her play multiple positions and excel at each one. Fjeldstad’s stats included 463 digs, 45 aces, 584 assists, 111 kills and 63 blocks. Fjeldstad helped the Mustangs win the AHSAA Class 2A Area 8 tournament, as well as picking up a win at the Class 2A South Regional Tournament in Montgomery.
“Overall, the season went very well and I enjoyed the year playing with my group of seniors and underclassmen,” Fjeldstad said. “I feel like we all bonded throughout the year, and we have built a bigger and stronger relationship with each other.”
Isabella head coach Kacie Adams, who has coached Fjeldstad since her eighth-grade season, said she has seen her grow into her big personality on the volleyball court.
“She has always had a big personality, and the first year was getting her to use it in a way to benefit her team, and each year that she has done that she has been put into that leadership position,” Adams said.
Fjeldstad began at Isabella as a setter, and entered the 2023 season as a setter as well. However, last season she played a lot of time on the back row as a defensive specialist.
“If we needed something done like setting, playing a defensive role, she was the one stepping in to do it,” Adams said. “She has had a lot of experience doing both roles, and she felt comfortable switching it up and going wherever we needed her to.”
As Fjeldstad moves on from the program, Adams said her presence will be missed next season because she was not a player who was quiet, but always talking and giving her opinion, whether it was asked for or not.
“Whenever she is not here next year, we are going to miss her,” Adams said. “It is going to be quiet without her.”
Fjeldstad said the support system from fans, and the coaches’ love and effort they put into the program, is what she will remember most about playing volleyball at Isabella.
