Chilton County’s First Cultural Latino Festival is set for Sept. 2 at Los Pinos Event Salon in Jemison. The doors will open at 3:00 p.m. Group leaders from multiple Hispanic organizations are hosting the event to bring cultural awareness and pride to the community.

“This event helps to get to know each other among the community,” event organizer Natividad González said. “This is a better way to understand the culture of other countries without having to travel to other parts of the world to have the opportunity to live this experience.”

Multiple countries will be represented including Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. Traditional folkloric dances will present at various times during the event, including modern dances.

The event is free to the public and everyone is welcome. Free ethnic food will be provided from 3:00 to 5.30 p.m. Special programming for the evening will begin at 5:30 p.m.

“After the program we will have four different DJs from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and the

Dominican Republic where the community can dance,” said González.

Artisanal handcrafts will also be available for purchase including traditional dresses, ceramics, bracelets, among other small businesses that represent the Hispanic community.

A mechanical bull will also be set up for the public to ride.

Los Pinos Event Salon is located at 12030 County Road 42, Jemison, one mile west of Interstate 65.
