Another hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Central Alabama. Storms are expected to roll in late today and into the early morning hours of April 1.

The storm is projected to reach Chilton County between 3-8 a.m.

The National Weather Service forecast for Clanton for Saturday, April 1 states, “A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 a.m. Low around 65. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”

While Chilton County is expected to be in the marginal risk category, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the county is encouraged to stay weather aware and have a plan in place.

Even the marginal risk category includes the possibility of tornadoes and damaging winds up to 60 mph.

Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive weather information. The Chilton County 911 app is pone way to receive severe weather alerts Have a plan in place to get to a safe area should a tornado warning be issued. Those in trailer homes or second-floor apartments should seek shelter in one of the county’s storm shelters. A list of locations is available here
