Chilton County High School sophomore guard Iasia Anderson had the perfect cap to a stellar 2022-2023 season earning an honorable mention on the Class 6A Girls All-State Team. The team was selected by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, and Anderson was one of four honorable mentions in Class 6A selected.

“When we first saw it, Iasia could not believe it, and she was shocked she actually made it,” CCHS coach Rickey Pulliam said. “I think she was just honored to be recognized for some of her accomplishments, and it was big for us, the program, and especially for her.”

Anderson put together one of the best seasons a CCHS basketball player has ever had, averaging 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 8.8 steals per game. The sophomore had many astounding stat lines during the season, including eight triple-doubles and three quadruple-doubles. In 32 games played, Anderson had a double-double in 26 of them.

The most impressive stat, however, is the guard led the state of Alabama in assists and steals across all seven classifications.

“(First team) is her goal next year,” Pulliam said. “The honorable mention is just a watch list this year, and I think she will meet her goal next year.”

Pulliam said after Anderson saw she was named an honorable mention, she went directly to the gym after school to get some shots up. As a coaching staff, when they first saw Anderson’s name on the list, their first thought was how much this could boost the entire program.

“It should motivate the other girls to see that they can do it too,” Pulliam said. “Not only Iasia, but it is big for our program overall because they are seeing things happen at Chilton County that are happening all around the state. I think that is huge for the program going forward.”

Anderson will have plenty of opportunity to prepare for next season as CCHS has a busy schedule planned for the summer months, including a tournament with over 15 teams already interested. Pulliam said there has been an uptick in other schools reaching out wanting to play the Tigers.

“The summer is going to be big, and we have around 24 games scheduled right now,” Pulliam said.

Next season will be Anderson’s fifth year on the varsity squad.
