Quarter-sized to three-inch diameter hail has already been reported in Thorsby and Verbena, respectively, from a line of storms making its way across Central Alabama today.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a tornado watch until noon for the entire region. Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive weather information. Have a plan in place to get to a safe area should a tornado warning be issued. Those in trailer homes or second-floor apartments should seek shelter in one of the county’s storm shelters. Heavy rain came through Chilton County overnight and into the early morning with more expected. A flood advisory is in effect until 9:15 a.m.

“Severe storms are possible through tonight, with several rounds of storms possible. Primary threats include large hail, damaging winds up to 60 mph, and localized flash flooding. A couple tornadoes are possible, beginning this afternoon, across the southern half of Central Alabama,” according to a hazardous weather outlook issued for several counties, including Chilton.
