The Jemison City council unanimously approved moving forward with the purchase of several pieces of land next to Hotel Street during its Feb. 6 meeting.
The council authorized the mayor to sign contracts with the Lewis Family for six parcels for $125,000 and for two lots on Hotel Street from Mary Caton for $16,000.
Funding the city received from the American Rescue Act will be used to pay for the property.
The property will be used for future community improvements that the city is planning. City Administrator Shannon Welch said more details would be available at a later date.
Also during the meeting, the council approved $2,500 for security cameras and allowing the Jemison Fire Department to purchase a blood warmer, which will be needed in the future as the department expands services and equipment.
