Southern Towne Market located in Thorsby’s Farm House Cafe is hosting a new creative outlet for Chilton County residents — Sips N Doodles. The painting parties will be facilitated by local residents, Brittany Johnson and Tara Ellison and will last 2-3 hours on average. Cost is $30 and includes a canvas, painting supplies and guidance during the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own finger-food and beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) to enjoy while painting.

“Many people feel like they are not creative or don’t know how to paint,” said Sips N Doodles co-owner Brittany Johnson. “You will be surprised what you can do once you get started.  When I worked at a ceramic shop in Mobile and led painting events, I always enjoyed seeing people find their talent.”

Painting parties will be at Farm House Café on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

“We will have an open paint night where attendees can paint whatever they would like,” Johnson said. “We will also have some printed-out cards for people that are looking for inspiration. We will have door-hanger projects. We will also have a theme night each week. This is perfect for couples looking for something to do on their date night or for friends looking to get together. This is something for everyone!”

Child-friendly painting events will also be offered for all aged children, but children will need an adult chaperone to help them with their project.

Johnson said they want people to feel empowered by what they have created while painting.

“I am not a professional artist, but when I complete my project it gives me a great source of pride,” she said. “It opens up your eyes to the possibilities of what you can accomplish.”

Tara Ellison, co-owner of Sips N Doodles and owner of Southern Towne Market, has an arts and crafts history of 15 years.

Sips N Doodles will be held at Farm House Café, but painting events can travel to other businesses and locations, if the space is available. Painting events are limited to a maximum of 50 people.
