From the Family Sunshine Center
Montgomery — The direct service providers, clients and staff of the Family Sunshine Center, which serves several counties including Chilton, wish you knew that the trauma inflicted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking has a long lasting physical and emotional impact on victims of all ages and all genders.
Their campaign, named “We Wish You Knew…,” was created to challenge misconceptions, expose uncomfortable truths, and change the traditional narrative on these important issues. “Most people have an image in their mind of what domestic violence or sexual assault or human trafficking looks like. But those impressions are often steeped in stereotypes or misconceptions and only scratch the surface of how complex and far-reaching these issues are;” said Evania Norman, FSC’s Director of Counseling Programs. “Our counselors and staff that work directly with victims helped conceptualize this campaign by sharing what they have learned by working with victims and their families.”
The “We Wish You Knew…” campaign materials feature traditional billboard and digital advertising, streaming video, and radio stops, as well as social media. The messages in this campaign are uncomfortable and address not only how these issues affect adults but also the impact on children and adolescents.
“This campaign is deeply personal to us,” said Tay Knight, executive director. “All of these messages are built from conversations with victims who’ve shared with us what they didn’t know and how damaging that lack of knowledge was. ‘We Wish You Knew…’ grew from there. I’m very proud of this campaign. While these messages are hard hitting and uncomfortable, I’m hoping they will engage the community, provoke conversation, and perhaps inspire a victim to seek help.”
