From Chilton County 4-H
Chilton County 4-H is excited to welcome the new 4-H program year as students return to school.
The 4-H program, which is the youth component of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, also welcomes a new staff member to the Chilton County 4-H Team. Krystal Vaith has joined the staff and brings expertise to the 4-H equine science and companion animal programs. Vaith will conduct school programs and special interest clubs. According to Janet Lovelady, 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent for Chilton County, the additional program assistant enables the organization to “expand the number of classrooms we visit each month and continue to offer our robust special interest clubs and our home-school club.”
The purpose of 4-H is to provide positive activities and events for youth that encourage belonging, independence, generosity and mastery. Chilton County 4-H offers special interest 4-H Clubs for youth to focus on a particular interest: leadership, livestock, horse, dog, STEM, poultry, sewing, cooking, and rabbit. Members can construct hands-on projects that can be entered in regional and state competitions, and can choose independent projects in an area that interests them. Camps are an important part of 4-H, and Chilton youth have several camping options throughout the year.
Chilton County 4-H programs are open to all youth ages 9-18 that live in or go to school in Chilton County. Parents can enroll their child online at http://v2.4honline.com or by completing an enrollment form at the Chilton County Extension office. The office is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The number is 205-280-6268. Janet Lovelady is the 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent for Chilton County and can be reached by cell phone at (256) 284-3572 or email at lovelj1@auburn.edu.
