He retired as an ALDOT Assistant Right of Way Administrator in April 2010. He preferred to stay in the background, but many sought him out for his expertise due to his wealth of experience and wise counsel.

George loved to listen to country and gospel music. He loved the outdoors, farming, and riding around on his Gator with the grandchildren. He has been a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. George was also a proud patriot and member of the Army National Guard Reserve for many years.

George was married to his wife, Janice Melvolene Yeargan Dobbs, almost 52 years ago in September 1970 at Bethsalem Baptist Church. They raised two daughters, Kim (DeWayne) Bice and Aimee Dobbs. He looked forward to visits with his grandchildren, Anna Kate and Jameson Bice, and was proud of their achievements. George is also survived by two sisters, Melba Burdette and Thelma Dobbs. He is also loved by brothers and sisters through marriage: Shirley (Bill) Smith, Donna Williams and Steve Yeargan. He loved a host of nieces and nephews both near and far. Kevin Burdette will be officiating the service. Pallbearers will include: DeWayne Bice, Steve Yeargan, Mark Smith, Kelly Burdette, Joe Dobbs and Scott Mullins. Honorary Pallbearers: Jameson Bice, Drew Smith and Bill Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, J.R. (Jimmie Ruth) and Douglas (Shirley) Dobbs. He will be joining many beloved aunts, uncles, and dear cousins in glory.

Friends will be received Aug. 17, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home.

Services will be held Aug. 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with officiating.

Interment will follow in Bethsalem Baptist Cemetery, Billingsley, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Shiloh Baptist Church Perpetual Care Fund. George managed this fund and enjoyed caring for the Shiloh Cemetery.
