Clanton Police are investigating a carjacking that took place on July 18 in the 700 block of Studdard Drive in Clanton.
CPD is looking for two suspects and a 2018 Black Audi after a pursuit that ended in Birmingham.
When the department responded to the scene of the carjacking, the victim said a black Audi SUV had followed him home.
“They pulled up behind him and ordered him out of his car at gunpoint. The victim was able to give officers a description of two black males armed with AR-15 style weapons and fled the scene heading back towards Temple Road,” according to CPD Lt. Cameron Bates.
The victim’s vehicle was later spotted on Interstate 65 North near Exit 212.
“A vehicle pursuit ensued that consisted of Clanton, Jemison, Chilton County Sheriff’s Department, Calera, Shelby County, Jefferson and numerous other jurisdictions assisted in the chase,” Bates stated.” The pursuit went North on I-65 and turned right onto I-59 to the 4000 block of 49th Court North in Birmingham where the offenders of both vehicles bailed and a foot chase began. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office brought K-9s to assist in the foot pursuit.”
The Audi the suspects used in the hijacking was later determined to be stolen. Bates said the vehicle had been stolen on June 28 from the 90 block of Crestview Drive in Mountain Brook, but also had a stolen license plate.
“Firearms and numerous other items of evidentiary value were recovered. As of this time no suspect(s) are in custody as the case is ongoing,” Bates said.
