As several news outlets have reported on two Chilton County Schools employees receiving letters about repaying wages from being overpaid for multiple years, the Chilton County Board of Education and Superintendent Jason Griffin have released a statement on the issue.
The statement stresses that officials cannot discuss specific personnel matters and that the overpayment was initiated before current finance department employees or Griffin were in their current positions.
“The Chilton County Board of Education recently discovered several overpayments,” it states. “These overpayments date back several years, and were initiated prior to the tenure of the current Finance Department, Superintendent and Board. Under Board policy and the law, board officials are required to recoup any overpayments. We are mindful of the financial impact that this matter can have on our employees, and we are working to balance that impact with our obligation to recover the funds.”
