Imagination and fantasy are coming to Jemison on March 4 at 6 p.m. for the Jemison Library’s Fairy Tale Show.
Several community groups have signed on to participate depicting favorite stories, including Princesses, Frozen, The Chronicles of Narnia, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (complete with chocolate fountain), Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz and The Tortoise and the Hare.
Food fit for a king will be for sale from the Jemison Culinary Arts students.
The students are also baking cookies with fantasy-themed shapes for children to decorate during the event.
Treasures will be shared with the kingdom as attendees will be entered into drawings for door prizes sponsored by local leaders and businesses.
Attendees are invited to join the fun by dressing up as their favorite Fairy Tale character.
This year, there will be a costume contest for children and adults with first, second and third place being awarded.
Librarian Tammie McGriff said seeing the children dressed up and having fun is her favorite part of the event.
“It is a great family night,” McGriff said. “Everybody has fun. Everybody puts their problems aside, and everything is centered around the children … I just love doing it every year.”
Entrance to the enchanted kingdom will be $3 for adults and $2 for children to raise funds for the library.
McGriff said the funds are used to purchase new books for the library and offer programs to the community for children and adults.
“We like to be able to offer the programs for free,” McGriff said.
Funding also helps enhance the Summer Reading Program.
McGriff said the community, not just Jemison but people from throughout the county, always come out to support the event.
“We are so blessed that it has grown each year,” McGriff said.
A new display castle is also being built for this year’s event.
