Marion Lanier “Red” Turnipseed
Marion Lanier “Red” Turnipseed, age 73, passed away at his home in Clanton on Feb. 9. A memorial service will be held on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at Clanton First United Methodist Church.
Red Turnipseed was an iconic figure in Chilton County. A juvenile probation officer for over 37 years, Red impacted the lives of countless people. He was a wonderfully loving husband, father and grandfather and a fiercely loyal friend. Red was a jack of all trades who loved woodworking in his shop, tending his land and helping friends with projects. No matter where he traveled, he always found someone he knew (or would soon know). He served Chilton County for four years as county commissioner and was voted the first Curtis Smith Citizen of the Year for his work in creating the C.I.T.Y. Youth Program of Chilton County, currently known as SPAN.
Red is preceded in death by his father James Lorenzo Turnipseed, Sr. and sisters: Helen Patricia Turnipseed and Mary Jean Turnipseed.
He is survived by his wife: Linda Woddail Turnipseed; children: William Madison “Hank” Murrah III (Katie) and Joshua Woddail Murrah (Tracie); grandchildren: Mac, Sam, and Rosalind Murrah; mother: Edith Dunn Turnipseed; brother: James L. Turnipseed, Jr. (Lois); and sister: Martha Shaw (Jimmy); and countless nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews who adored their Uncle Red.
