Verbena High School’s Jacob Morris is this week’s athlete of the week. Morris had an outstanding performance in Verbena’s victory over Barbour County High School.
He was particularly great on the defensive side of the ball. Morris racked up 10 tackles in the game, leading the Red Devils in that category. He also played a role in two turnovers for the defense, recovering a fumble while also intercepting a pass and racing back 60 yards for a touchdown.
All this helped Verbena post a shutout in the 52-0 win.
Honorable mention:
Jakavion Jackson, Maplesville High School
Jakavion Jackson has put together an outstanding first half of the season for the 5-0 Maplesville Red Devils. He had a great performance on Sept. 17 in Maplesville’s win over Loachapoka High School.
In the game, Jackson rushed only eight times, but he made those rushes count. He picked up 120 yards and scored three touchdowns in the 49-0 victory.
