The Maplesville Town Council unanimously approved a $1.47 million budget for the 2022 fiscal year during its Sept. 13 meeting.

The budget anticipates a little more than $1.47 million in revenue and $1,466,710 in expenditures.

This would leave an additional $3,748 in excess revenue available.

Sales tax will generate the majority of the town’s revenue in the coming fiscal year with $595,000 expected.

Ad valorem, motor vehicle, gasoline and cigarette taxes will also bring revenue to the town in the coming fiscal year.

The largest line item in the budget is General and Administrative at $531,380, followed by the Police Department at $483,500.

Also during the meeting, the council approved an amendment to the 2021 fiscal year to account for unexpected revenue and expenses. Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman said the town had received a grant for the Stryker CPR devices and had some unbudgeted expenses, including the purchase of some property behind the fire department and the house next to the United Methodist Church.
