School board approves resignations, new hires

The Chilton County Board of Education approved a number of personnel-related issues during its Aug. 3 meeting.
The board accepted 12 resignations, including a counselor at Clanton Elementary; a library media specialist, secretary, teacher and a child nutrition program employee from Verbena High; three teachers from Clanton Intermediate, two teachers from Isabella High; a nurse from Maplesville and a psychometrist who worked out of the central office.
The board also approved new employees for 12 classified positions and 24 certified positions. Certified positions included four teachers and a reading specialist for Clanton Intermediate, a teacher for CES, three teachers for VHS, a STEM Academy teacher and a teacher for a different department for LeCroy Career Technical Center, two teachers for Jemison Elementary, three teachers for Jemison Intermediate, a teacher for Jemison High, two teachers for Maplesville High, a English Language Learner teacher, a teacher for Isabella High, a teacher for Thorsby High, a reading specialist for Jemison Elementary, two teachers for Chilton County High School and a Library media specialist for Clanton Intermediate.
A science teacher from Jemison High School was also approved for the TEAMS program, which gives the opportunity for a higher salary to qualifying math and science teachers.
The board also approved the PASS handbook, a dual enrollment agreement with Auburn University and a list of volunteers as a part of the consent agenda.
