A fun event for outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, fishermen and their families is coming to Chilton County.
Union Grove Baptist Church in Jemison is hosting its Wildlife Hunting and Fishing Spectacular on Aug. 28 from 5-8 p.m.
The event will feature hunting and fishing displays, barbecue and sides, door prizes and a grand prize of an over and under shotgun.
“We are going to a tremendous display of God’s creation,” organizer Wayne Edgeworth said. The event is free, but registration is required at mygrovelife.com/wildlife-spectacular. There is a maximum of 400 spots available. Organizers are asking that children in attendance be at least 10 years of age.
Avid outdoorsman and hunting guide Matt Kelley of Equip Outdoors Ministries will be the guest speaker.
“We just thought that something with our community (after) being kind of sheltered because of the COVID, and people are being able to get out now, this will be an outstanding opportunity for Chilton County to have a place to come,” Edgeworth said.
Edgeworth had wanted to host the event to share his testimony. He waited for years to get a buck he had named Golly Whopper. Then, he prayed and God answered his prayer to be able to harvest the buck, and it was the third-largest 8-point in Alabama history. Edgeworth has told his story several places as a way to tell people about God.
Kenneth Wren, pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church, said the church wanted the event to be a time of celebration that families could enjoy together.
Wren said they wanted the community to be able to come together and “just let them know about the love of God.”
Edgeworth recommended getting to the event early because the first 100 people will receive a hat and T-shirt.
