Alfredia Shavers has been named assistant principal for LeCroy Career Technical Center.

She said she is honored and humbled by the opportunity.

“I am very blessed,” Shavers said. “… Just knowing that you are where you are supposed to be, doing what you are supposed to do to fulfill your purpose is very humbling to me, and I am grateful for it.”

Her focus will be to help students transition and overcome any obstacles to starting a career as well as “having those relationships with instructors to help them do the same thing.”

“LeCroy Career Tech, we are just a team and we are all headed in the same direction,” Shavers said.

A desire to help other teachers led her to want to work in administration.

Seven years ago, she decided that she “wanted to do more to help more people” beyond a classroom setting.

She completed her educational leadership certification through the University of West Alabama to prepare for an administrative role.

“I also participated with Mr. (Jason) Griffin (CCS Superintendent) for the last several years on the aspiring administrator’s group that he had at the board,” Shavers said. “… I had the desire and waited for the right door to open.”

For her, the program helped show her the administrator’s point of view.

Although education is Shavers’ second career, she had been interested in being an educator at a young age.

“When I was 13, I remember telling my mom I was going to be a school teacher,” Shavers said.

She had attended the health science program at LCTC while a high school student at Chilton County High School. She became a dental assistant and later a dental hygienist.

When she was able to, Shavers went back to school to complete her bachelor’s degree and later her master’s degree in special education.

She has worked in Chilton County Schools since 1998. Her first position with the system was as a special education teacher. Later, she became an elementary school teacher.

For the past four years, she has been the special education teacher for LCTC, the SPAN Program and PASS Academy.
