Let the angels rejoice for another has joined them in heaven. Her earthly struggles are over, the pain is gone and she is united with her Lord and Savior. Mildred F. Gachet passed away just shy of her 91st birthday.
She was preceded by her parents, George W. Fuqua and Thelma J. Fuqua of Louisville, Alabama and by the love of her life, James M. Gachet. She is survived by three daughters, Gail Gachet, grandson Barrett Russell (CorrieBeth, great-grandchildren Sophia and Carter) and granddaughter Kyanne Chambers (Chad, great-granddaughter Ava Claire); Peggy Gachet (Tom Rau) and Diane Gachet Cheveldayoff (Les Cheveldayoff), granddaughters: Leslie, Leah and Jamie Cheveldayoff. Nine sisters and one brother, Agnes Hurst, Marion Hurst, Bernice Todd, Catherine Kriner, Louise Brown, Maxine Hancock, Joy Lyons, Judy Gachet, Lydna Benge and George Fuqua Jr., are also left behind to grieve her loss. Nothing made her happier than being with family.
While the last year of life was not easy for Mildred, she lived the other 90 years on her terms. She had a strong life partner who jointly built a comfortable life doing what they both enjoyed, farming in Clio, Alabama. She believed in “For Better or Worse …Through Planting and Harvest, she was a farmer’s wife.” Everyone will remember Mildred for her generosity and her love of God and family. Being around children was her favorite thing to do.
Mildred spent most of her life in Clio, Alabama and as life presented new challenges moved willingly to Clanton. She took that move in stride and found a new church home in Clanton. Everyone she met recognized a sweet spirit and was always there for her drop by visits. In the end, it was she who enjoyed drop by visits the most and we are eternally grateful for Nellie Austin’s weekly visits that lifted her spirits so.
It gives the family comfort to know she is suffering no longer.
Visitation for the family will be held on July 10 at Hatley’s Health Care Center in Clanton from 2-3:30 p.m. A joint Celebration of Life for James and Mildred Gachet is planned for July 17, 2021 at Clio Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and a reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Internment will take place later in the day for the immediate family. Donations in their honor may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or to Clio Baptist Church at 3315 Elamville St. Clio, AL 36017.
