Given that it is my first one, I am not quite sure what to expect. But if it’s anything like what I am used back home, then I am sure it will be a blast.

I have never been to the Peach Festival. Four months ago, I did not even know it existed.

Once I moved to Clanton and began here at The Clanton Advertiser, I quickly found out that it’s a big deal here in Chilton County.

In my hometown of Plant City, Florida, we annually hold something similar. Like Clanton is known for its peaches, Plant City is known for its strawberries. It is the winter strawberry capital of the world, and every March, the Strawberry Festival is held. The Strawberry Festival a huge deal to Plant City and much of the Tampa area like the Peach Festival is a huge deal here.

Like the Peach Festival, the Strawberry Festival has concerts, pageants, great food and auctions, among other things. It is a really fun time for the town and everyone involved.

I used to attend the Strawberry Festival every year. My friends and I would make it a point to save up money and eat until our stomachs could not take any more. We would go to the concerts and just sit and enjoy the festivities.

Those memories of times at the Strawberry Festival are what excite me about my first Peach Festival. I cannot wait to go listen to the music, eat from the vendors, and try the best peaches that Chilton County has to offer.

I will not compare it to the festival that I grew up with, but if it’s anything like it, then I’m sure it will be a blast.
