The city of Clanton settled any confusion on who would be providing water and sewer service to the Alabama Farm Center during a Chilton County Commission meeting on June 8.

Clanton Council Member Wade Watley came to the commission meeting with a statement on behalf of the city and Mayor Jeff Mims.

“We will remind you that on numerous occasions we have confirmed to you that the city of Clanton is committed to providing these [water and sewer] services even though the Clanton Water Works and the Sewer Board has never received an inquiry or request regarding this matter,” Watley said.

In the statement, it was pointed out that the city had not been given a proper chance to accurately plan the impact of providing water and sewage service on the water system in the city due to a lack of data provided by the commission. The city has also never been afforded the opportunity to discuss the water and sewage needs with the engineering group in charge of the Farm Center project.

Despite the lack of information and data provided, the city still remains committed to do its part with the project.

“The city of Clanton has never withdrawn or withheld its support of the Alabama Farm Center,” Watley said. “As demonstrated by the transfer of the warranty deed to the Alabama Agriculture and Exhibition Center Cooperative District for our portion of the land on which the Farm Center will be constructed, as well as our willingness to provide water and sewer services, we remain committed to the successful development of this facility.”

Watley finished the statement by saying that the city looked forward to having further discussion on the issues mentioned in the future. The Commission did not offer a response except for thanking Watley for his time.
